Canterbury Day in the life

I woke up to the alarm of the person above me the walls are so thin I can them clearer than my own thoughts.

07:20

Rolled out of bed and simultaneously unleashed the smell of the Indian dinner from last night out from under the sheets. Listened to PMT and used the world’s smallest shower.

07:50

Departed for local Tube station for what should’ve been an easy trip to the Overground station, joked about being early.

07:52

Definitely not going to be early as the Hammersmith & City line was closed today. Apple Maps ETA said 08:40, train left at 08:40.

08:38

Boarded the train and even found a window seat. Also scouted that the train has bathrooms which I’m sure will be BIG later. Train also departed right at 08:40.

09:35

Arrived in Canterbury and found the gates to the Cathedral. Spent £18 then walked around what was the largest Cathedral of all time. Pictures below do not do justice on how cool it was (worth the quid)

10:45

Prayed

11:30

Found the nearest Pret and got a sandwich, needed the fuel

11:58

Started the journey to a rural pub at a magic park along the river. I’m pretty sure the grass is greener here, and the water looked crisp.

13:00

1 hour into the coolest walk of all time along the river. Might’ve ruined my shoes in the puddles, but it was way worth it. Wish I could paint, but I hope these photos do the countryside justice. Just class all around (and sheep). I think living a life here on the water should be considered the highest form of wealth.

13:30

Arrived at The Artichoke. A pub from 1650 (a full 121 years before the United States of America was formed). I cannot do this pub justice. Old. Wooden. Brick. Beer Garden. Fireplace running. Darts. Pool. Cheap pints. Bury me here. It could be worth the trip from London just to see this place. Basically a cathedral of beer.

13:31

Drank 4 pints (just walked 3.5 miles to a random town I earned these)

16:14

Board train illegally back to Canterbury.

16:22

Arrived  in Canterbury without paying for ticket (bang). Walked the wrong way towards the walled city and then turned around.

16:55

Found a Wetherspoons for a £2 pint of Bud Light to take the edge off

18:00

Walked into a restaurant that had been around since 1500 AD (505 years before the Four Loko was invented) which had the same song on loop for 65 minutes.

18:30

Drank another pint and had my fair share of bread, meats, and cheese.

19:23

Departed back for London on high speed train.

19:25

Fell asleep on train

20:23

Got back to London and make a b-line for the Devonshire.

20:45

At Devonshire with Guinness in hand. This place is both a tourist pub and a local pub, somehow. The Guinness is good, and the place is always packed to the gills. They go through a keg of Guinness (44 Pints aparently) every 10 minutes.

*not my photo but captures the vibe well

21:30

Began to rain, and no one moved. The only way I can semi-capture the pub culture here is by the fact that this pub had maybe 60 people standing in the cold, rainy night without umbrellas, drinking Guinness for hours.

22:00

Met two lads from about an hour outside of London. Talked footy and Tottenham’s recent fall (still raining btw, and this time raining hard).

22:35

Followed the group to O’Neils (London Skeeps) but was met with a 40-minute line. Group audible back to 8mile end (the place may be the ghetto, but the Wetherspoons pints are cheap)

23:00

Tried to do an alley-oop and punch David in the face (nothing a 2-quid pint can’t fix). Found a table and met a group of law students who play on the tennis and football (American) teams at Queen Mary. You may soon be reading the blog of the starting WR1 for QM.

00:10

Left Wetherspoons for home, passed by the Green Pepper, but had some self-respect to just eat the rest of my Pringles at home.

00:45

Sleep
